Subway 10-year weight loss celebration year ends with Caribbean trip...and fall

I went down to the Caribbean and had a chance to get six or seven days in a row off.  It's been a crazy year with 2008 being the 10th anniversary.  What I realized very quickly was that when you travel for work it is very different than when you travel for fun.

There was nothing better than leaving the cold Midwest and heading to the Caribbean for some R&R, spending time with friends.  Everything was great and wonderful.  We were having a blast until I slipped on a boat and came crashing down, smashing my right leg in to a metal rod on the side of the boat.  Luckily this happened near the end of the vacation.  I was laid up in my hotel room the entire next day and had all kinds of swelling in my knee.  I decided to grit my teeth and bare the pain, getting myself to the airport for my flight home.  I finally got home and the swelling continued to go, go, go.

It is never a good to get injured, but the timing for this particular injury could not have happened at a worse time.  Two major things: I was having a commercial shoot with Michael Phelps in a few days and I also had my sister's wedding (it was a beautiful wedding).  Between the two, it was a stressful time to be in pain.

I still have some pain and slight swelling.  Really, all I can do is rest my leg and stay off it as much as I can. I don't like not being able to exercise. It's not because I don't want to do it, it's because I can't. In all honesty, this takes me back eleven years ago, before I lost my weight. It's been so long now that I forgot what it was like to be overweight and immobile. This has reminded me how much I really appreciate my good health, really appreciate what I have. This injury has definitely done that for me.
